Welcome to the Yorkshire Law Society
Our Heritage. Our Community. Our Future.
Founded in 1786, the Yorkshire Law Society has been bringing legal professionals together for almost 250 years. While the profession has changed enormously over that time, our purpose remains the same: to support, connect and represent lawyers across York and North Yorkshire.
Today, the legal world is evolving at pace. Technology, regulation, client expectations and new ways of working continue to reshape our profession. In that environment, having a strong local network, a shared voice and opportunities to learn from one another has never been more important.
The Yorkshire Law Society is more than a professional membership organisation. It is a community. Through training events, networking opportunities, the Annual Dinner, the Charity Walk and many other activities throughout the year, we bring people together to share ideas, build relationships and support one another.
We are committed to supporting the next generation of legal professionals through our close links with the Junior Lawyers Division, helping those entering the profession build the skills, knowledge and networks they need to succeed.
We are equally proud of the profession's contribution to the wider community. Through fundraising and charitable initiatives, we support organisations that make a tangible difference across our region. During my year as President, we will be supporting York Citizens Advice and my President's Charity, York Music Hub, helping to widen access to music education for children and young people regardless of their circumstances.
Whether you are a solicitor, trainee, legal executive, support professional, student or simply interested in the legal profession in our region, I hope you will find the Society welcoming and relevant.
I look forward to meeting many of you over the coming year.

What is the Yorkshire Law Society?
The Yorkshire Law Society exists to strengthen and support the legal profession across York and North Yorkshire. We do this in a number of ways:
Representing the Profession
We provide a collective voice for legal professionals at a local and national level, helping to ensure the interests of our profession and the communities we serve are heard.
Building Connections
Law can be demanding, and no lawyer should feel professionally isolated. We create opportunities for members to meet, share experiences, exchange ideas and build lasting professional relationships.
Supporting Career Development
Our close relationship with the Junior Lawyers Division helps ensure the next generation of lawyers receives support, encouragement and opportunities to develop.
Sharing Knowledge and Best Practice
The challenges facing the profession are often shared ones. Through our events, specialist groups and informal networks, members can discuss emerging issues, explore new ideas and learn from one another.
Bringing the Profession Together
The Society organises a range of social, networking and fundraising events throughout the year, including the Annual Dinner and the Charity Walk. These events strengthen the connections that underpin a thriving professional community.
Supporting Our Communities
We are proud to contribute to the wider community through charitable fundraising, support for access to justice initiatives and partnerships with local organisations making a positive difference across our region.
Looking Beyond the Legal Profession
The Society maintains strong relationships with businesses, educational institutions, public bodies and other professions throughout York and North Yorkshire, helping ensure the legal profession remains connected, relevant and influential.
