Global legal centre report

The Gazette, Legal Cheek, Business Mayor and Commercial Dispute Resolution cover the Law Society’s recent report which has found that London is the most attractive centre for commercial litigation and international arbitration.

Law Society President Nick Emmerson said: “The UK is currently the second largest market for legal services globally. It is recognised and respected the world over because of the stability and quality of our courts, our laws and legal professionals.

“Our report shows that in an increasingly competitive global market, London’s commercial courts continue to thrive. English law is the governing law of choice in international transactions and a vital asset to the UK’s economy.”

Women partners

West Observer, Trend Fool and News 7 Trends cite the Law Society’s findings on women in the legal profession to analyse why law firms are under pressure to make more women partners.

Statistics from the Solicitors Regulation Authority show that women account for 60% of solicitors in England and Wales and our data shows that the number of women solicitors in England and Wales grew at three times the rate of men in the decade to 2021.

Lawyers and the rule of law

Jonathan Goldsmith, member of the Law Society’s Policy and Regulatory Affairs Committee, writes in the Gazette about the role of lawyers in the rule of law.
