Backlog of personal injury cases
The Gazette covers the concerning rise of delays and backlog in personal injury cases. A newly released report on whiplash reform reveals that 349,000 cases currently remain unresolved in the new whiplash portal.
Law Society President Lubna Shuja said: “In light of this report, and while awaiting the resolution of the ongoing Supreme Court case concerning mixed injuries, now would be an opportune time for the Ministry of Justice to examine how the portal has been operating.
“We need to know why there are a growing number of unresolved cases and why they are taking so long to settle. The longer a case takes, the more the impact on access to justice for claimants.”
Workplace wellbeing
Jodie Hill, member of the Law Society’s Employment Law Committee, speaks to Make a Difference about the role of legislation in implementing wellbeing at work.
Jodie said: “Secondary legislation contains the detail that is really important in terms of implementing wellbeing at work and is there to help support you achieve the things that are set out in the acts, the primary legislation. I am not aware of any secondary legislation for wellbeing; this is what needs to be created.”
