Illegal Immigration Bill passes
The Independent, Standard, Guardian blog (at 11.33 BST), ITV News, Mail Online and 300+ regional publications report the Law Society’s concern that the Illegal Migration Bill is unworkable despite being given Royal Assent. President of the Law Society Lubna Shuja said:
“A growing number of people will be left in limbo as they cannot be removed, and they cannot claim asylum.
“The cost to the taxpayer will continue to increase as the individuals left in limbo are housed in various accommodation indefinitely.
“There is a severe lack of asylum and immigration solicitors to represent those who are subject to removal orders.'

Legal Futures reports on the Law Society’s research which forecasts professional indemnity insurance premiums to rise again this year, but by less than in 2022.
President of the Law Society Lubna Shuja said: “We advise firms to start budgeting for increased premiums and perhaps consider premium financing as a way to spread costs through the year.
“We also recommend firms start the renewal process early; around three months before your renewal date.”
