Housing legal aid deserts
12 areas of the UK, including Liverpool, Hull, Darlington and High Wycombe, have failed to attract any bids by law firms to the housing legal aid scheme, the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service, reports LandlordZONE, On Digital Shop and Housing Quality Magazine.
President of the Law Society Lubna Shuja voices our concerns: “The fact that the government has failed to attract any bids for housing legal aid provision in 12 areas of the UK – including large areas like Liverpool – shows just how unviable it has become for providers.
“We are really concerned that this could lead to less support being available for families at risk of losing their home at a time when we are in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.
“More and more people are struggling with rising rents, spiralling debt and mortgage costs.”

“Many of the LSB’s proposed workstreams – innovation, technology, market surveillance and consumer vulnerability – are already being carried out by regulators and the profession.
“We encourage the LSB to focus on adding value and to avoid duplication of costs in the current economic climate.”
