Past president reflects on her term
Immediate past Law Society President I. Stephanie Boyce speaks to Honest Columnist about her time in office as the leader of the solicitor profession.
Stephanie said: “It’s bittersweet. There’s a sadness at coming to the end, but also the joy of recognition as to what we’ve achieved.”
Stephanie talked about the Law Society’s research that shows that Black and minority ethnic solicitors face “structural barriers” in the legal profession.
“You are more likely to be discriminated against or bullied or harassed. If you’re Black, you can leave the profession two years earlier than your white counterparts,” she said
Pro Bono Week

Law Society President Lubna Shuja said: “Pro Bono Week is a great opportunity to shine a light on the important work lawyers do for free to help those in need of crucial legal advice.
“I encourage members of the legal profession to participate in events during Pro Bono Week and consider whether they too can volunteer. Pro bono work helps ensure people have access to justice and enables solicitors and firms to give back to their communities.”
