Social mobility obstacles
New Law Journal covers a social mobility report from the Socio-Economic Taskforce, which the Law Society participates in.
I. Stephanie Boyce, president of the Law Society, which sits on the City of London Socio-Economic Diversity Taskforce, said: “The report draws urgent attention to the need for professional services―including the legal sector―to improve their socio-economic diversity to ensure we reflect the society we serve.”
We have launched a social mobility hub to support firms’ efforts to drive social mobility.
Gender pay gap persists
LexisNexis reports research by the Next 100 Years which shows the legal sector is lagging behind other sectors when it comes to the gender pay gap. Coverage notes the findings echo Law Society research finding that women in the largest firms earn on average 20% less than men.

Gary Rycroft, a member of our council membership committee is quoted in Express Digest and UK Today News about people being ripped off when renting cars.
Gary said: “It is unfair to have to pay more for your car hire if you are late through no fault of your own. But there isn’t a straight route to get compensation.”
