Inadequate legal aid rates
The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) has warned that low legal aid rates are creating “serious risks of miscarriages of justice occurring,” the Justice Gap reports.
The CCRC agrees with the Law Society that the proposed 15% increases in criminal legal aid rates is the “barest minimum increase” and “an immediate starting point only.”

Family Court Statistics
The latest family court statistics, from January to March 2022, reveal that the courts are struggling with backlogs, Solicitors Journal reports.
“We have persistently voiced our concern about the significant backlogs in the family courts – which pre-date the pandemic. Delays can cause significant harm as well as uncertainty for the parties involved” said I. Stephanie Boyce.
