Judicial diversity still lacking
Law Society of England and Wales president I. Stephanie Boyce has written a letter to the Gazette, saying more needs to be done to improve judicial diversity.
The Gazette notes Stephanie highlighted just 1% of judges in England and Wales are black – a figure that has not changed since 2014.
The number of Asian judges has increased from 3% to 5%, but "there is much room for further progress," Stephanie said.
Evidence lacking for new SRA health and wellbeing rules
Legal Brief, Gazette and Today's Wills & Probate report the Law Society's critique of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) proposed changes to its health and wellbeing rules.
I. Stephanie Boyce said: "Existing SRA principles cover solicitors' duty to act with integrity, uphold public confidence in the profession and encourage equality, diversity and inclusion. We do not believe the SRA has provided sufficient evidence to justify the introduction of additional regulatory requirements."
Law firms' cybersecurity
Research by IBN Research for Menlo Security has found that just 57% of law firms have procedures in place to deal with a cyberattack and 43% are not fully prepared.
