Afghan evacuees' rights at risk
The Gazette, Arab News and Morning Star report our concern that Afghan citizens evacuated to the UK last summer will be in legal limbo as their interim immigration papers expire in the coming weeks.
Law Society president I. Stephanie Boyce said: "Refugees and asylum seekers in the UK need valid immigration status to rent a home, open a bank account or find work, and access NHS treatment free of charge."
"For people who were evacuated from Afghanistan in fear of their lives, this omission is deeply distressing.
Annette Elder, a member of our immigration law committee, spoke with BBC Radio 4's Today Programme (from 49:35) about the issues facing Afghan evacuees in the UK. Living with Crohn's disease – life in the profession
Rhian Hooton, a medical negligence associate at Irwin Mitchell and junior vice president at Cardiff Law Society, speaks to us about her experience of living with Crohn's disease.
"I was reluctant at first to talk about the true impact of my disability at work and ask for reasonable adjustments, as many are, but things got so much better for me once I did.
"Reasonable adjustments have been invaluable to me in fulfilling my potential, so I would really urge all employers to invest and embed them into the workplace," she said.

A solicitors' story of living with Cystic Fibrosis
Mark Blois, a member of our lawyers with disabilities division, similarly writes about his experience of having cystic fibrosis (CF) and his career as an education lawyer in a blog for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
"If I can even in a small way be a role model to people who are at an earlier stage in their life or career, then that feels like the responsible thing to do.
"I think if I had one piece of advice for a young person with CF today, it would be to focus on what you want – not just professionally, but in your whole life. What are your ambitions? What are your priorities? What motivates you? And what do you want to leave, I suppose, by way of a legacy?"
