Levelling up
Today's Conveyancer covers Law Society president I. Stephanie Boyce's warning that ministers' ambitions for levelling up are unlikely to be achieved unless justice is properly funded.
"Legal services are the hidden wiring that makes local economies tick, and the key to unlocking the potential of businesses in all parts of the country," she said, adding, "A successful levelling up strategy should seek to leverage the power of the legal services sector to drive growth by investing in the infrastructure our sector relies on – most notably the courts."
UK-India trade talks
The UK and India entered negotiations to form a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) last month. Law Society president I. Stephanie Boyce writes in the Gazette that we welcome the trade negotiations as India continues to be one of the key priority jurisdictions for international work.
Legal Services Board
In response to the Legal Services Board's (LSB) business plan 2022/2023 the Law Society urged the LSB not to lose sight of its key role in overseeing frontline regulators and suggests that it interview practitioners who have experienced enforcement proceedings first hand. The Gazette picks up the story.
"While the overall economic health of the sector remains strong, small firms, including high street practices and sole practitioners, face challenging economic conditions" says Law Society President I. Stephanie Boyce.
