Levelling up
Today's Wills & Probate and Today's Family Lawyer cover Law Society president I. Stephanie Boyce's warning that ministers' ambitions for levelling up are unlikely to be achieved unless justice is properly funded.
"Legal services are the hidden wiring that makes local economies tick, and the key to unlocking the potential of businesses in all parts of the country," she said, adding, "A successful levelling up strategy should seek to leverage the power of the legal services sector to drive growth by investing in the infrastructure our sector relies on – most notably the courts."

Anthony Oldfield, office managing partner of Clifford Chance in São Paulo, writes in the Gazette about the role of English law in M&A deals in Brazil.
"Overseas clients looking to invest in Brazil want the deal governed by a law they know, and even if they are not from the UK, often choose English law for their commercial contracts," he said.
Pre-action protocol reforms
Local Government Lawyer reports the Law Society does not believe now is a suitable time to reform pre-action protocols (PAPs).
"In response to a Civil Justice Council consultation, Chancery Lane said this was because many other areas of civil justice are being reformed, and the pre-action protocols "work reasonably well in general (although there are some exceptions)."
