Probate delays
The Guardian and Today's Wills and Probate report on probate delays, citing our criticism that any increase in probate fees must be accompanied by service improvements.
"In 2020, people had to wait 12 to 14 weeks on average to receive their grant. This is unacceptable," said Law Society President I. Stephanie Boyce.
Raab and the Bar Council
The outgoing chair of the Bar Council Derek Sweeting QC has called Dominic Raab "thin-skinned" for failing to meet him, the Guardian and the Gazette report. The Guardian notes that Raab has met with I. Stephanie Boyce.
Legal Aid
Today's Family Lawyer covers our call for early legal advice to be restored for family law cases.
I. Stephanie Boyce said: "By restoring early legal advice for family law cases, fewer cases will go to court. Instead, there will be negotiated settlement, referral to mediation and management of client expectations so they do not take cases to court when there is no basis."
