Legal aid support for those facing eviction
The Gazette and Landlord Zone report on the new consultation looking at extending legal aid to those facing eviction.
Law Society vice president Lubna Shuja said: "It would be a positive step for non-means tested legal advice for those facing repossession to be available prior to court hearings and for that advice to include guidance on welfare benefits and debt.
"However, there are serious sustainability issues in legal aid housing, as proven by the extent of the housing legal aid deserts. Those facing repossession will not be able to access vital legal advice if there is no provider in their area. Considerable investment is still needed to tackle these issues."

Professional indemnity insurance
Inside Conveyancing, Today's Wills & Probate and Today's Conveyancer all cover news that the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has no plans to reform the professional indemnity insurance market (PII).
"We welcome the SRA's commitment to retaining the current protections for PII, but we remain deeply concerned about their recent proposal to remove vital long-term indemnity cover for consumers by ending SIF and removing post six-year run-off cover," said a Law Society spokesperson.
