Fraud warning as home buyers targeted
Our joint warning about home buyers targeted by fraudsters continues to get pick up. The Lancashire Post, Blackpool Gazette, Wrexham.com, Wired Gov, and Brinkwire follow the story.
Our joint release with the National Economic Crime Centre, National Crime Agency and Action Fraud warns that a spike in scams has seen victims lose hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Law Society president I. Stephanie Boyce said: "These frauds can involve huge sums of money and have a devastating lifelong impact on the home buyer and their personal finances. Solicitors and their clients can all play a part in making such crimes more difficult for the criminals."
Cyber losses clause in insurance terms
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is to add to the terms and conditions of insurance with a clause clarifying cover for cyber losses. Legal Futures and New Law Journal pick up the story, mentioning our suggestion that the level of cover be extended to cover first-party losses.
Pro bono week turns 20
Pro bono will have its twentieth anniversary when it takes place next week, the Gazette reports.
"Free legal advice can be life-changing for people who would otherwise have to navigate the justice system without expert help," said Law Society President I. Stephanie Boyce, who also stressed the importance of legal aid funding.
