YLS Annual Ball 2010 - Friday, 24th September 2010 The Yorkshire Law Society Annual Ball 2010 will be held at St William's College on Friday, 24th September 2010. Members and their guests are invited to attend what will be a relaxed, informal and fun evening. Legal Sector Alliance Forum - Wednesday, 29th September 2010 The LSA Forum, to take place at Ware & Kay, Sentinel House, Peasholme Green, York YO1 7PP, on Wednesday, 29th September 2010 (4.15-6.00pm), aims to showcase the business benefits of taking a pro-active approach to climate change, with a focus on key climate impacts and opportunities for law firms. York Legal Walk 2010 - Thursday, 30th September 2010 Starting at The College of Law (team registration from 5.00-6.00pm), following a scenic 10km route around the area. Open to all members of the local legal community and not for profit sector, as well as family and friends. Organised by The North East Legal Support Trust, the Walk is raising money for hard pressed legal advice and support charities in the area covered by the North East circuit, from South Yorkshire to Northumberland. These agencies help to facilitate access to justice for the poorest and most disadvantaged members of society, providing fee legal help to people facing problems such as homelessness, debt, employment and family issues. During these difficult financial times, the need for funds to support this vital work is even greater than usual. Judicial Careers Seminar - Wednesday, 20th October 2010 JAC Commissioner, Judge Charles Newman, will speak to members about the range of judicial appointments available, the selection process and how to give yourself the best chance of making a successful application. This seminar is to be held at The College of Law, Bishopthorpe Road, York, on Wednesday, 20th October 2010, at 5.30-7.00pm (registration & refreshments from 5.00pm). The Institute of Legal Cashiers & Administrators (ILCA) - Friday, 12th November 2010 The ILCA is holding a one day conference 'Knowledge is the Key?' on Friday, 12th November 2010 at Marriott Hotel, York. The conference is aimed at assisting legal practices with some of the most difficult issues and will bring together prominent and specialist speakers to cover a wide range of regulations including; preparing for monitoring visit, profitability, contingency planning and money laundering. YLS Annual Dinner 2010 - Friday, 19th November 2010 This year's Annual Dinner will be held on Friday, 19th November, where the President of the Society's principal guest speaker will be Baroness Hale, DBE, QC, PC, FBA. Profile: Baroness Hale is a British legal academic, barrister, judge and a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. In 2004, she joined the House of Lords as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary. She was the only woman ever to have been appointed to this position. She served as a Law Lord until 2009 when she, along with the other Law Lords, transferred to the new Supreme Court. She remains the most senior female judge in the history of the United Kingdom.
Once again, the Dinner will be held at the historic Merchant Adventurers' Hall, York, in the presence of the Lord Mayor and the Sheriff of York, together with the President's other guests from the professional community.
Dress is black tie and a drinks reception will commence at 7.00pm, with dinner at 7.30pm.
This event promises to be a special evening and with such a high profile speaker, we hope members will show their support. Tickets will be on sale from September (price to be confirmed).
